The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) unanimously passed a resolution last month that called on its member states to adopt whistleblower protections. According to Public Concern at Work, the leading independent charity on whistleblowing in the UK, the resolution appeals for protections that "span both the private and public sector and protects citizens from unfair dismissal, defamation and breaching official secrets."
While the PACE has a strong history on issues of human rights, its powers are only advisory; however, the European Parliament and other regulatory bodies often refer to its work.
