National Whistleblower Day, commemorated annually on July 30, marks the anniversary of the first U.S. whistleblower law passed by the Continental Congress in 1778, which declared it the duty of every citizen to report misconduct. The day honors the bravery of individuals who expose wrongdoing within organizations, often at great personal and professional risk, and serves as a vital reminder of the need to protect and support whistleblowers across the public and private sectors.

New Executive Order Raises Serious Concerns for Veterans Affairs

Government Accountability Project has serious concerns about the Executive Order’s provision “Section 4: Restoring Accountability at the Department of Veteran Affairs”. This section appears to follow ill-advised legislation which would make it easier to remove, demote, or suspend VA employees who have been retaliated against for whistleblowing – despite the claim these actions must be in accordance with the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017.

No Rogue Rulings Act Obstructs Government Oversight

Government Accountability Project strongly opposes the No Rogue Rulings Act of 2025 (NORRA) and calls on the U.S. Senate to reject the bill. By limiting the authority of the United States district courts to provide injunctive relief, NORRA threatens to undermine judicial independence and obstruct vital oversight of government misconduct.
