Senator Chuck Grassley Proposes Bill to Protect Inspectors General

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley proposed a bi-partisan bill to protect inspectors general.

This came after President Donald Trump fired several from their government watchdog positions this year.

The bill requires an administration to provide advance notice and a good reason for the firing.

“These episodes have convinced me that the executive branch, regardless of what party’s in charge, just doesn’t get it. From one administration to the next, Democrat or Republican, it makes no difference to me. This isn’t about politics. It’s about the separation of powers, checks and balances, public trust. It’s clear that Congress can’t rely on any White House to get it right so we need to change the law, ” said Senator Grassley.

Senator Grassley said both President Trump and Former President Barack Obama provided some “dubious rationales for firing” watchdogs.

The National Whistleblower Center and the Government Accountability Project endorsed the bill.
