The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has posted for public comment EPA’s draft Climate Change Adaptation Implementation Plans for 7 National Programs and 10 Regions. Other agencies should follow EPA’s example and solicit public review of their plans, which should become part of the basis of a meaningful national climate change preparedness process.
A 60-day public comment period ends on January 3, 2014.
The 17 draft Implementation Plans are part of an ongoing effort to address adaptation across the federal government, in response to Executive Order 13514 – “Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance.”. The plans were prepared by EPA’s Program and Regional Offices following the February 2013 publication of the EPA Draft Climate Change Adaptation Plan. The EPA Climate Change Adaptation Plan is being finalized based upon comments received during a 60-day public review and comment period earlier in 2013. The draft Climate Change Adaptation Implementation Plans produced by EPA’s 7 National Program and 10 Regional offices provide more detail on how they will carry out the work called for in the Agency-wide Plan.
The public review drafts of EPA’s draft Implementation Plans have been posted to a public docket and are available on the Agency Web site at this URL address: http://epa.gov/climatechange/impacts-adaptation/fed-programs/EPA-impl-plans.html. Comments can be provided through the the public docket at www.regulations.gov (Docket Number EPA-HQ-OA-2013-0568)
