Out of Balance: ExxonMobil’s Impact on Climate Change will be awarded Best Feature Film in the Environmental Preservation category at the 4th annual Artivist Film Festival on November 11 at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, CA. This hour-long movie focuses primarily on ExxonMobil’s support of the global warming disinformation campaign and its influence on the Bush administration. It includes interviews with scientists including R.K. Pachauri (IPCC chair), Robert Watson (former IPCC chair), and Michael Oppenheimer (Princeton); authors including Bill McKibben, Elizabeth Kolbert, and Ross Gelbspan; environmental advocates from the Union of Concerned Scientists, Exxpose Exxon, Greenpeace, and other organizations; and Climate Science Watch director Rick Piltz.
We congratulate director Tom Jackson and his production team on receiving this award. It was a pleasure working with them on the interview we did for the film.
“ARTIVIST” is the first international film festival and awards dedicated to addressing Human Rights, Children’s Advocacy, Environmental Preservation, and Animal Rights. The Artivist mission is to strengthen the voice of activist artists – “Artivists” – while raising public awareness for social global causes.
The film screens on November 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Egyptian Theater. The awards program is on November 11.

The documentary features commentary from and interviews with several scientific and environmental experts including: world-renowned climate scientists Michael Oppenheimer and Robert Watson, former U.S. Climate Change Science Program Senior Associate Rick Piltz, and R.K. Pachauri, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore. Additionally, the film profiles a group of scientists, business executives and environmentalists including Greenpeace Research Director, Kert Davies, that are determined to battle and overcome ExxonMobil.
The 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill harmed miles of coastland, created fiscal damage to the local fishing industry, destroyed crops, and put people’s health in jeopardy. For 18 years ExxonMobil has appealed the litigation process and has avoided paying $2.5 billion in punitive damages to the families involved in the case.
