Government Accountability Project Condemns Firing of Michael Atkinson

WASHINGTON – Friday night, President Donald Trump fired the Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson. Atkinson had informed Congress of the whistleblower complaint that precipitated the President’s impeachment.

Government Accountability Project Executive Director and CEO Louis Clark stated,

“The firing of Inspector General Atkinson by all appearances is an outrageous abuse of a power. The firing of this honest, courageous Inspector General will send a terrible and frightening message to all federal employees at all levels of government: now apparently the only guiding principle for civil servants is loyalty to this President, not the Constitution or the rule of law.”
