In a September 2015 press conference, Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha risked her career to reveal research findings that showed children’s blood lead levels in Flint, Michigan, had doubled after the city’s water source was switched to the Flint River in April 2014. Despite immediate blowback from state and local officials, Hanna-Attisha persisted with her research and continued to speak out on the subject.
