HBO: VICE Preview

Tonight, HBO’s investigative journalism program VICE covers the ongoing health issues stemming from the Deepwater Horizon disaster and BP’s problematic use of the Corexit dispersant to supposedly combat the oil. The link above is a trailer for tonight’s episode, which utilized GAP’s thorough 2013 report Deadly Dispersants in the Gulf: Are Public Health and Environmental Tragedies the New Norm for Oil Spill Cleanups? That investigation detailed the devastating effects of Corexit on human health and the ecosystem. GAP worked with VICE producers extensively on this episode.


Puget Sound Business Journal: Insurance Regulators Remove Whistleblower Judge in Seattle Children’s Case

The Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) placed an administrative judge on paid leave after she reported that the agency’s second-in-command “contacted her in an effort to influence her decision on cases related to the Affordable Care Act, including a suit that Seattle Children’s Hospital filed against the OIC.”


Government Executive: Advocacy Groups Offer VA Whistleblowers a New Outlet

Two advocacy groups – Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and the Project on Government Oversight – have created a website, VAOversight.org, for Veterans Affairs Department employees to file reports of wrongdoing at the agency. The launch of the site, which allows whistleblowers to remain anonymous, follows recent allegations of gross mismanagement and neglect at the Phoenix VA Health Care Center.
