Ask GAP’s Devine a Question on Today’s Reddit AMA

Today, GAP and the Make it Safe Coalition will hold a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) event from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EDT to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Whistleblower Protection Act (WPA). This is an opportunity for the public to pose questions about the WPA or general whistleblower protections to GAP Legal Director Tom Devine, who is recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on whistleblower law.

US News & World Report: White House Ignores Snowden Petition for Full Year

The petition on WhiteHouse.gov which urges President Obama to pardon NSA whistleblower and GAP client Edward Snowden has now been up for more than a year since the 100,000-signee threshold was crossed. Reaching that level of interest is supposed to trigger a response from the White House, but 365 days later, petitioners have not received one.

In related news, the German government said Thursday it would cancel a contract with Verizon Communications, “part of the fallout from continuing revelations by Edward J. Snowden … who says that American intelligence agencies had routine access to global data provided by telecom companies.”


Washington Post: Investigators, VA Clinic in Philippines used Unapproved Drugs for Decades

In a letter to President Obama, the Office of Special Counsel – the federal agency charged with examining whistleblower complaints – has revealed its findings of wrongdoing at a Philippines VA hospital. Agency policy was violated for two decades, as medications not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration were dispensed to patients.
