The Government Accountability Project’s “American Whistleblower Tour: Essential Voices for Accountability” will kick off its second year from 7-10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
According to a press release, the tour is intended to educate the public about the important role whistleblowing has in our democracy, as well as prepare young individuals on how to make ethical decisions.
UH-Clear Lake will feature a showing of the 2011 film “The Whistleblower” starring Rachel Weisz as part of its Film and Speaker Series at Bayou Theater, located at 2700 Bay Area Blvd. in Houston. Afterward, a moderated discussion with former Nebraska policewoman and UN whistleblower Kathryn Bolkovac, who was the inspiration for the film, will be held.
“The public will learn about the importance of speaking truth to power, and the inherent risks whistleblowers face when they do so,” Shelley Walden, the international program officer of the Government Accountability Project and moderator of the presentation, said in a press release.
Upcoming stops on the tour will include Auburn University, Franklin and Marshall College, Florida International University, Indiana University-Purdue and Indiana University-Bloomington.
The event is free and open to the public.
