Leading Whistleblower Protection Organization Sends Message on Grand Jury Indictment of Former President Donald Trump

WASHINGTON, DC – On the evening of March 30, 2023, it was confirmed that a Manhattan grand jury indicted former President Donald J. Trump on charges involving alleged hush money payments during the 2016 presidential campaign. Government Accountability Project believes no citizen, regardless of their political or socioeconomic status, should be above the law, when justice and accountability are meant to serve as cornerstones of our society. We are hopeful the judicial process will remain fair and ensure justice is served.

Government Accountability Project Senior Counsel and Director of the Democracy Protection Initiative, Dana Gold, commented,

“It is noteworthy that a New York grand jury has returned an indictment against former president Donald Trump. He, like all Americans accused of crimes, deserves the presumption of innocence at this stage of the criminal process. At the same time, partisan attacks on our system of justice without evidence of corruption, threats of violence, witness intimidation, and racist dog whistles will undermine our democracy in favor of one powerful person. Unfortunately, threats of violence against Alvin Bragg and members of the grand jury show that democracy is still at risk. Government Accountability Project will continue to zealously protect the whistleblowers and witnesses whose truthful disclosures of evidence of illegality and abuses of power are vital to accountability, a functioning democracy, and ensuring that no one is above the law.”
