Chairwoman Maloney and Subcommittee Ranking Member Mace Respond to Coalition Letter

WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. Nancy Mace, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, published a press release commemorating National Whistleblower Day and calling for the swift passage of the Whistleblower Protection Improvement Act (WPIA), which would match the rights of federal employees who blow the whistle to those available for the private sector.

A letter organized by Government Accountability Project and signed by 101 organizations called for the swift passage of the WPIA, praising Chairwoman Maloney’s commitment to “landmark legislation, both for freedom of speech and government accountability.”

Government Accountability Project’s Legal Director, Tom Devine, said,

“All Americans owe a debt of thanks to Chair Maloney for her leadership defending those who defend the public. The House vote on this legislation will expose whether there still is a bipartisan commitment to fight fraud, waste and abuse with credible rights for those who risk their political lives for that goal.”
