CIA/torture whistleblower and GAP client John Kiriakou is unjustly serving a 30-month jail sentence in retaliation for being the first former CIA officer to a) confirm that the agency waterboarded detainees, and b) label waterboarding as torture. He is the sole CIA agent to go to jail in connection with the U.S. torture program, despite the fact that he never tortured anyone.

Since his sentence began, John has written a series called “Letters from Loretto,” detailing his experiences at the federal correctional institution in Loretto, Pennsylvania. FireDogLake, an online outlet, publishes the series.

This Friday, May 9, key staffers of FireDogLake have graciously planned a day of action for John in Washington, DC. Meeting at 9:30 a.m., they will lead supporters on a daylong visit on Capitol Hill to meet with “a select group of congressmen and senators to request that they contact the Bureau of Prisons to immediately move John to a halfway house near his family.” The goal of this action is not to protest the terrible treatment of John, but to make key partnerships that can move him one step closer to being with his family.

Show your support for Kiriakou by participating in the Day of Action!

John deserves this move to a halfway house. This patriot poses no threat to society whatsoever, and as GAP supporters know, he was promised this move for part of his sentence before prison officials reneged on the deal.

If you have time to do so on Friday, please show your support for Kiriakou by joining up with fellow supporters of John, whistleblowers and justice! GAP thanks FireDogLake for this extraordinary action.
